ENDORSEMENTS FROM THE EDUCATIONAL COMMUNITY

The Courtesy on the Road Program is an initiative which seeks to positively affect the safety and performance of our most inexperienced and impressionable drivers. Any efforts to improve driver safety should be embraced and praised. Student response to the program has been growing throughout our schools. The Courtesy on the Road program has graciously offered its resources for inclusion in school system driver safety initiatives. These efforts and resources are greatly appreciated.

During the past 18 months, the Howard County Public School System has worked with Courtesy on the Road to impact the ongoing safety issues that involve teen drivers in the County, particularly involving high school students and their propensity to become involved in fatal and near-fatal traffic collisions. To that end, Courtesy on the Road has participated in 28 high school safety presentations, enrolling over 1200 students in their safe driving campaign. During this period, Courtesy on the Road has also visited most of the high school campuses, providing printed material, prizes and other gifts to participating students, as part of a program to positively influence the driving habits of teen drivers.  It is estimated that Courtesy on the Road has impacted about 25% of the teen drivers who obtain parking permits from the school system.

I am proud that a private citizen-run group has taken such a strong interest in such an important issue.

Courtesy on the Road is an extremely worth-while program fostering safe, responsible driving for our teens. It's been a pleasure working with Lisa Morrow and other staff members.  Hopefully, this program will continue next year.

This is a great way to communicate to young adults that we want to catch them doing the right thing!!!

I have found the Courtesy on the Road Program to be an effective reminder to student drivers that they need to be responsible drivers for the safety of themselves and others. The incentives to drive courteously provided by the organization are the kinds of things and activities that young people appreciate. In addition, the fact that someone may be watching or following them to validate their careful driving motivates them to be careful and responsible. The fact that this is an ongoing activity instead of a one time hit or miss event makes it even more effective. As an administrator responsible for teen safe driving, I am grateful for the support this program provides for our schools.

ENDORSEMENTS FROM THE LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMUNITY

Courtesy on the Road has been a true partner in our educational efforts. Their message of safe and courteous driving and their emphasis on communicating with young drivers dovetails nicely with our program. Their concern for the safety of our roadways and their passion for reducing the numbers of tragedies on them is an important part of our plan and a model for community participation in addressing a community problem.
